Clerodendrum ugandense Prain., ca. 400 species, tropical and warm areas, Verbenaceae, butterfly bush, or Ugandan clerodendrum: Sprawling shrub, to 3.5 m (10 tall). Leaves opposite, glabrous, coarsely toothed, elliptic to obovate, to 10 cm (4½") long. Inflorescence a terminal panicle. Flowers are ca. 2.5 cm (1") across, calyx red; petals are united at the base into a short tube, four wide light blue petal limbs and one wide violet-blue petal limb. The six showy stamens have long arching purple filaments and blue anthers. Native to tropical Africa. (Hillsborough County; B95-809; Cindy S. Kamelhair).
